I’m a firm believer that summertime is perfect for pies, but fall time is the best for cobbler. This recipe is such a great twist on a traditional cobbler, you’ll have to make it yourself to believe it. The secret recipe is the barbecue sauce. Really makes a taste you just can’t beat.
PrintHickory Bourbon Apple Cobbler
Ingredients
Filling:
- 8 granny smith apples
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- ½ cup Hickory Bourbon Bar-B-Q Sauce
- ¼ cup unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon corn starch
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon coriander
- 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
- Juice of ½ lemon
- 1/8 teaspoon lemon zest
- 1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract
Topping:
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ¾ cup all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup softened butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°.
Peel, core, and cut all apples into ½” wedges. Mix together all filling ingredients and fold into apples. Pour apple mixture into a 9×13 baking dish. Mix together all of the ingredients for the topping until all the butter is thoroughly incorporated. After placing apple mixture in the dish, sprinkle crumb topping on top to cover.
Place cobbler in the oven, and turn up heat to 425°. Cook for 15 minutes then reduce heat to 375°. Cook for 35 minutes after turning down the heat. Remove from oven and let cool for 20 minutes before serving. Spoon generous helpings into a bowl and top with your favorite ice cream.

Awesome. But imagine my disappointment upon discovering that there wasn’t actually bourbon in this dessert.
I can’t wait to try this recipe. I’m down for trying any unexpected ingredient in my dessert!
Sounds Yummy! Can’t wait to try it!
Yum! I’ve never had cobbler with BBQ sauce in it before but it looks really good. I’ve seen a bunch of recipes referencing Stubbs, but I haven’t had it before. Sounds good!
I just added this to my Facebook page too, to help spread the word.
great Job on chopped and you had me at bourbon!! Love me some cobbler so much. Sharing on Facebook as well.
I shared this with my wife and she added it to my honey do list. LOL. I’ll promote it on my KeepOnEggin FB page; I enjoy your posts on your blog!

I’m going to have to give this one a shot this weekend. I’m interested in that combo of bbq sauce and cobbler.
The Cobbler was awesome. Thanks!
Oh my gosh, this sounds delicious. I definitely have to try it.
Would like to win some BBQ sauce to try this out.
I just made this cobbler. It smells and tastes delicious, out of this world really. OK, I admit it, I stuck a spoon (gently) into the side of the dish to taste it as I am having a difficult time not eating it now and saving it for a party later tonight. I love your blog. The giveaway is awesome. The giveaway aside, I am posting to encourage others to try this recipe. Thank you for your blog!
I just watched you on Chopped and you are too cute. I have had a lot of fun looking around your website and can’t wait to try some great looking food!
Thanks Jenny. If you try any of my recipes, let me know what you think!
thanks Susan! I’m going to make you the winner. I think you are the only one who actually made this recipe!
Thank you ever so much for the fantastic giveaway. The items were on my doorstep when I came home from work. The Wilton cake carry is beyond well made and will be put to use this Labor Day weekend. The Stubbs BBQ sauce will also be used this weekend. Let me again state how fabulous this cobbler recipe is….the BBQ sauce, I believe it adds a subtle unami tasta and a depth and complexity to this sweet dish. I want to thank you again for the recipe and the giveaway. I just recently discovered your blog and only wish that I had discovered it back in May. Keep up the great writing and recipes. I also “liked” you on Facebook several weeks ago which is really a stamp of approval coming from me.

My favorite thing to do with BBQ sauce was ribs but if you can make apple cobbler I believe that has now changed!
Hi Scott- yes, who knew you can make apple cobbler with Stubbs? 🙂 I love all these sweet and salty/savory pairings I’ve been seeing lately in desserts.
