But they’ve got so much to offer! Back ribs are a third of the price, make for the perfect appetizer bite, and cook significantly faster.

Where do Beef Back Ribs Come From?

Beef Back ribs come from the dorsal area behind the shoulders. The rib area is where prime rib roast and ribeye steaks are cut. If you’ve ever had a Prime Rib Roast for the Holidays, the bone attached are the Beef Back Ribs.

Most people think of Beef short ribs (also known as the plate rib) when they think of beef ribs which have lots of meat on the top of the ribs, while beef back ribs have their meat in between the ribs.

Beef Back ribs are a much more economical cut than beef short ribs which makes them easy to love. If you love gnawing on the bone of a Prime Rib, then beef back ribs are the cut for you!

How to Make this Asian Inspired Recipe for Beef Back Ribs

Another reason this recipe is going to become your go-to is how fast it is to make compared to other rib recipes you’ve probably seen. The ribs are cooked at a higher heat, making it a quick appetizer, while caramelizing the sugars for an Asian-inspired flavor profile. If you are wanting a full meal, even though there is a lot less meat on the bones, you can buy several racks to make up the difference — and I guarantee it will still be less expensive than purchasing beef plates.

  • Preheat your grill to 300F indirect heat
  • Pat Ribs dry and apply dijon mustard followed by Sunshine State of Mind Craft BBQ Rub
  • Cook on indirect for two hours
  • Remove the ribs and create a wrap sauce in foil or butcher paper that includes butter, sugar, pepper flakes and more rub
  • Return to the grill and let cook for an additional 30 minutes.
  • Remove from the grill and garnish with additional red pepper flakes, sesame seeds or thinly sliced green onions.
