I heart hot sauce. So when I saw this huge container of habaneros on sale for a steal, I decided it was time make a huge batch of hot sauce. I love making a big batch of hot sauce and giving away jars to friends, family and neighbors as a parting gift. This recipe is a variation of the recipe I found on the back of the box of peppers I bought at B.J.’s wholesale club. It looked so similar to recipes I’ve seen from the Islands that I figured I’d give it a try and it did not disappoint. This turned out very similar to Suzie’s hot sauce from Antigua that I am highly addicted to. I made a few tweaks and the recipe is below:

Ingredients
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 cup chopped carrots
- ½ cup chopped onions
- 5 cloves garlic minced
- 6 habanero peppers stems removed
- ¼ cup water
- ¼ cup lime juice
- 1 tbsp lime zest
- ¼ cup white vinegar
- 1 tomato
- sea salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Heat the oil in a sauce pan over medium heat. Cook and stir the carrots, oil, onion, and garlic in the hot oil until soft, about 10 minutes. Transfer the mixture to a blender or food processor. Add the habanero peppers, water, lime juice, vinegar, tomato and lime zest to the blender/processor and blend until smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste, transfer the mixture to a saucepan and simmer for 3-5 minutes. Simmering at the end gives the sauce a more liquid consistency.

Robyn – I really enjoyed this Resipe. Not to Hot, just right! Reminds me of the Caribean hot sauce I had in St. John. Thanks

Believe it or not I got this recipe from the back of the habanero container that i bought at BJ’s wholesale club and it is a winner!
OMG!!!!! Finally a decent recipe for paleo hot sauce.
My quest is at an end.
Thank you Robyn!!
How long will these keep in the fridge?
Mike- this keeps up to a month in the refrigerator.
Good recipe but needs a major boost in the chilli count to be called hot :). I used your recipe as a base but added a nice mish mash chillies including scotch bonnets, orange and red savina habaneros and a good handful of red and green birds eyes. Ended up using over 30 chillies which turned out bottom worryingly hot but delicious!.
Ha, love the name of the sauce…..kinda reminds me of MY website! kickassfood.net 🙂 Recipe looks good though! I’m going to have to try it.
