Hickory Bourbon Apple Cobbler and a Stubb's Sauce Giveaway

Barbecue hickory flavored apple cobbler: a perfect treat.

I’m a firm believer that summertime is perfect for pies, but  fall time is the best for cobbler. This recipe is such a great twist on a traditional cobbler, you’ll have to make it yourself to believe it. The secret recipe is the barbecue sauce. Really makes a taste you just can’t beat.

To sweeten this idea, I’m partnering with Stubbs to giveaway 2 bottles of  Stubb’s Hickory BBQ sauce and a Wilton Cake daddy that is great for taking just about anything to a tailgate (not just cakes obviously). All you have to do is leave a comment on my blog and I’ll choose a winner at random. The giveaway runs until Monday, August 20th when I will announce the winner.

Wilton cake pan- great for taking goodies to a tailgate!

Ingredients

Filling:

  • 8 granny smith apples
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup Hickory Bourbon Bar-B-Q Sauce
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon corn starch
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon coriander
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
  • Juice of ½ lemon
  • 1/8 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract

Topping:

  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup softened butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon

Cooking Instructions

Preheat oven to 375°.

Peel, core, and cut all apples into ½” wedges. Mix together all filling ingredients and fold into apples. Pour apple mixture into a 9×13 baking dish. Mix together all of the ingredients for the topping until all the butter is thoroughly incorporated. After placing apple mixture

in the dish, sprinkle crumb topping on top to cover.

Place cobbler in the oven, and turn up heat to 425°. Cook for 15 minutes then reduce heat to 375°. Cook for 35 minutes after turning down the heat. Remove from oven and let cool for 20 minutes before serving. Spoon generous helpings into a bowl and top with your favorite ice cream.

I just made this cobbler. It smells and tastes delicious, out of this world really. OK, I admit it, I stuck a spoon (gently) into the side of the dish to taste it as I am having a difficult time not eating it now and saving it for a party later tonight. I love your blog. The giveaway is awesome. The giveaway aside, I am posting to encourage others to try this recipe. Thank you for your blog!

Thank you ever so much for the fantastic giveaway. The items were on my doorstep when I came home from work. The Wilton cake carry is beyond well made and will be put to use this Labor Day weekend. The Stubbs BBQ sauce will also be used this weekend. Let me again state how fabulous this cobbler recipe is….the BBQ sauce, I believe it adds a subtle unami tasta and a depth and complexity to this sweet dish. I want to thank you again for the recipe and the giveaway. I just recently discovered your blog and only wish that I had discovered it back in May. Keep up the great writing and recipes. I also “liked” you on Facebook several weeks ago which is really a stamp of approval coming from me.

My favorite thing to do with BBQ sauce was ribs but if you can make apple cobbler I believe that has now changed!

  24. Robyn March 25, 2013 at 5:47 am #

Hi Scott- yes, who knew you can make apple cobbler with Stubbs? :) I love all these sweet and salty/savory pairings I’ve been seeing lately in desserts.
